It’s back! That time of year where everything returns to life; welcome to spring. This season of all things new isn’t just for the blooming flowers and chirping birds, it is also the perfect time of year to consider adding something fresh and fun to your homes décor. Yes, there is paint, upholstery and maybe even a new sofa to consider, but what I’m going to suggest to you is a very beautiful and greatly versatile alternative, wallpaper.
Ok, so now you’re thinking, wallpaper? It’s stunning when gracing the inner pages of an interior design magazine, but on the walls of my own home? Well let me stop you here: These beautiful and bold prints aren’t just for your walls anymore, they can also be used in a variety of practical, but fun ways to add a fresh new look to your home.
Whether you’re working with offcuts, or you’re buying a fresh roll to get creative with, our friends at Graham & Brown have put together some top tips and inspiration ideas to fuel your next project.
(Pro tip: Before you begin, know your adhesives! Depending on where you’re applying your wallpaper, you’ll need the correct type of glue for the job. Consider purchasing a reliable waterproof adhesive. An all-purpose glue will allow you to stick your wallpaper to anything from wood, to glass and even fabric.)
- Are you the type of person who tends to be a bit unsure when it comes to commitment? Then consider a not so constant pop of color by lining your kitchen and/or bathroom cupboards and drawers with a vibrant design. Now you see it, now you don’t!
- If you have a wooden staircase that has seen better days, but you can’t face the task of sanding down and lacquering each step, this could be a faster and more affordable alternative. Simply paint your bannister and steps in a neutral shade and apply a stunning wallpaper to the rise of your stairs. Although each step doesn’t need to match, you should try and stick to similar colors for a running theme that will pull the look of your staircase together.
- Do you love your bookcase, but don’t feel as if your books are getting the attention they deserve? Then lining your bookcase with wallpaper provides an easy way to add interest to this often times overlooked feature in your home. Perhaps you could even have a different design for each shelf to reflect what type of books are kept in each section? The options are endless.
(If you already have a papered wall remember, the idea is to make your bookcase stand out, so don’t be afraid of applying a design that is completely different than your current wallpaper.)
- Earth day is celebrated during this season, so think green by upcycling some old containers and tin cans to create gorgeous homemade table decorations! Intricate patterns work wonderfully on these stunning recycled pots, so pick eye-catching designs that will draw your guests’ attention to your hand-crafted features.
So what are you waiting for? We’ve given you plenty of ideas to get you started, but this is just the tip of the iceberg! From lampshade coverings to wallpapered headboards, the possibilities are endless when you let your imagination run wild.
